The Birdcage (1996)
Directed by Mike Nichols

REVIEW
This was a very well done adaptation of a stage play driven by equally good performances from Nathan Lane and Robin Williams. The film was very charming and built up to a funny and satisfying end. By the end of the film I couldn’t help but like  it. I quite enjoyed myself with this one.

Man, I have not watched a movie in so long.

The last movie I watched was Take Shelter last Monday, 13th May. Yes, I think that’s a long time ago.

The next movie I’ll watch is probs MIB3. I love Men in Black

Or maybe I’ll fish through my hard-drive for something.

My Top 5 movies from 2011

I know, I KNOW. You’re probs thinking “what the heck? It’s already nearly half way through 2012.” I know. But I think I’ve finally watched enough movies for me to make this decision.

(in order)

  1. Take Shelter
  2. Shame
  3. Hugo
  4. Young Adult
  5. The Skin I Live In

I still have many critically acclaimed movies to watch but I think it’s unlikely that my decision would change.

A Serious Man (2009)
Directed by Joel Coen & Ethan Coen

REVIEW
I suppose you could call A Serious Man a pretty serious film. It once again explores a very much recurring them in Coen Brothers films: fate. This film has the Coen Brothers written all over it with its style, humour, and script/screenplay. It explores a question asked by most of us and just when you think everything will be answered, we are left wondering.
This is a very engaging film during and after its screening if you get what I mean. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I even enjoy reading up on it after viewing it.

Alien vs. Predator: Requiem (2007)
Directed by The Brothers Strause

REVIEW
I really did not manage to see much good in this if there was any to start of with. It was brainless action with no real direction. And you couldn’t really see very much because everything was so dark.

Take Shelter (2011)
Directed by Jeff Nichols

REVIEW
Take Shelter is a powerful, pitch-perfect psychological thriller that doesn’t waste a moment of screen time. It is fueled by brilliant performances from Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain, though the latter’s is a little more subtle. Its intensity builds to a stunning finale that sent chills down my spine and gave me goosebumps all over.
This here is brilliant film making.
