The Reader (2008)
Directed by Stephen Daldry
REVIEW
This was one of the very few occasions where I read the book before watching the movie.
I must say that though this was pretty darn beautiful, it didn’t have the same magic the book had. The beauty in the book’s literacy somehow wasn’t transferred to screen as much as I would have liked it to.
Kate Winslet gives a standout performance, no doubt. But, I must commend both Ralph Fiennes and David Kross for portraying Michael very well too. I personally preferred Ralph Fiennes’ calm, subtle, reflective performances over David Kross’.
Overall, this is a very lovely watch, one which I would recommend.

The Birdcage (1996)
Directed by Mike Nichols
REVIEW
This was a very well done adaptation of a stage play driven by equally good performances from Nathan Lane and Robin Williams. The film was very charming and built up to a funny and satisfying end. By the end of the film I couldn’t help but like it. I quite enjoyed myself with this one.

The last movie I watched was Take Shelter last Monday, 13th May. Yes, I think that’s a long time ago.
The next movie I’ll watch is probs MIB3. I love Men in Black.
Or maybe I’ll fish through my hard-drive for something.
I know, I KNOW. You’re probs thinking “what the heck? It’s already nearly half way through 2012.” I know. But I think I’ve finally watched enough movies for me to make this decision.
(in order)
- Take Shelter
- Shame
- Hugo
- Young Adult
- The Skin I Live In
I still have many critically acclaimed movies to watch but I think it’s unlikely that my decision would change.
A Serious Man (2009)
Directed by Joel Coen & Ethan Coen
REVIEW
I suppose you could call A Serious Man a pretty serious film. It once again explores a very much recurring them in Coen Brothers films: fate. This film has the Coen Brothers written all over it with its style, humour, and script/screenplay. It explores a question asked by most of us and just when you think everything will be answered, we are left wondering.
This is a very engaging film during and after its screening if you get what I mean. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I even enjoy reading up on it after viewing it.
